BOISE, Idaho – December 3, 2025: Micron Technology, Inc. (Nasdaq: MU), a global leader in memory and storage innovation, has officially announced that it will exit its Crucial consumer business, bringing an end to the production and sale of Crucial-branded SSDs, DRAM, and portable storage products across global retail and distribution channels.
Micron confirmed that shipments of Crucial consumer products will continue until the end of fiscal Q2 (February 2026). Importantly, the company will maintain full warranty services, technical support, and customer assistance for all existing Crucial products after the phase-out.
Reason Behind the Exit
In an official statement, Sumit Sadana, Executive Vice President and Chief Business Officer at Micron, explained that the decision reflects rapidly increasing global demand for enterprise-class memory and storage:
“The AI-driven growth in the data center has led to a surge in demand for memory and storage. Micron has made the difficult decision to exit the Crucial consumer business in order to improve supply and support for our larger, strategic customers in faster-growing segments.”
The shift underscores Micron’s strategic priority to focus on cloud, AI, and data center infrastructure, which continue to be the fastest-growing and most profitable sectors in the memory and storage market.
End of a 29-Year Consumer Legacy
For nearly three decades, the Crucial brand has been synonymous with reliable consumer SSDs and DRAM modules used worldwide by PC builders, gamers, professionals, and everyday consumers. In its announcement, Micron expressed appreciation to the millions of customers, partners, and team members who contributed to Crucial’s success over the past 29 years.
Focus Shifts to Enterprise Memory and Storage
Despite the discontinuation of Crucial’s consumer line, Micron emphasized continued investment in:
-
Micron-branded enterprise SSDs
-
Data-center-class storage solutions
-
Server-grade DRAM
-
High-performance products tailored for AI, cloud, and commercial computing
These segments represent Micron’s core growth markets as global demand accelerates for advanced memory technologies powering AI, cloud workloads, and modern data centers.
Employee Impact and Internal Transition
Micron noted that the transition will be handled through internal redeployment opportunities, allowing employees affected by the Crucial consumer exit to transition into open roles across the organization.
A Major Shift in Micron’s Long-Term Product Strategy
Micron’s exit from the Crucial consumer space marks a major realignment of the company’s product roadmap. By narrowing its focus to enterprise and commercial markets, Micron aims to strengthen supply for strategic partners and accelerate innovation in next-generation memory technologies.
The Crucial brand leaves behind a longstanding legacy in the consumer memory market — and Micron moves forward with a sharpened focus on powering the AI-driven future.
